Chiropractic Pain
Chiropractic treatment is quite popular amongst people who are suffering different kinds pain. It could a back pain, neck and arm pain or pain caused by migraine attack.
These pains could be divided into two types: intractable pain and chronic pain. Patients suffering intractable pain would be having excruciating and constant pain of such a magnitude that it would virtually dominant in every moment of their existence. Chronic pain is less severe and is not usually present constantly.
Intractable pain cannot be treated using chiropractic medicine. This kind of pain could be treated medically using opiate drugs and surgery. But, chronic pain could be treated using chiropractic therapy. Chiropractic treatment is quite popular in the treatment of lower back pain.
Low back pain is quite a common medical problem. It has been found that about one fourth of the population suffers from back pain. Most people would suffer back pain at least once in their life time. Generally, the pain gets better within a few weeks whatever be the method of treatment. In most of the cases, the cause of the back pain is unknown.
A chiropractor will take the health history of the patient on their first visit. He will also physically examine the patient especially the spine. He might also carry out some other tests including X-ray. If he is convinced that the problem could be treated using chiropractic medicine then he develops an appropriate treatment plan.
The treatment would include one or more chiropractic adjustments. A chiropractic adjustment (also known as a manipulation treatment) is carried out manually and it is delivered by using the hands. This treatment is mostly given to the spine by applying a controlled and sudden force to a joint. They are done to increase the range and quality of motion in the area being treated.
Other health care professionals like physical therapists, sports medicine doctors etc. also use manipulative treatments in their practice. Many of the chiropractors use other treatments in addition to chiropractic adjustment. They could be mobilization, massage, and some non manual treatments. Many use additional treatments like ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation and exercises.
Patients undergoing chiropractic adjustment treatment may sometimes experience side effects like temporary discomfort in the parts of the body that were treated, headache, or tiredness. These side effects are generally minor in nature and goes away within one or two days.
