Chiropractic Treatment is undertaken by a health care professional whose treatment focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of skeletal system and muscles involved in such a system, and the effects of such disorder on the nervous system. The treatment involves treatment of spine and other joints and soft tissues attached with them using physical methods. This kind of treatment is involved in adjusting misaligned joints of the body, especially of the spine, thereby reducing spinal nerve stress.

Even if you are pregnant, there is no bar that you cannot undergo chiropractic treatment. In fact, there are many chiropractic practitioners, who are trained to handle such pregnant women for treatment.

These chiropractors would use special tables which would adjust with a pregnant woman’s body and would take extra pre caution of not putting pressure on the abdomen. These practitioners would also provide the patients with exercises for the adjustment of the spine which would be safe for pregnancy.

During pregnancy, a woman’s body undergoes some physiological and endocrinological changes. Some of these changes could produce misalignment of spine or joints. Some of these changes are:

  • Protruding abdomen and increased back curve
  • Pelvic changes
  • Changes in posture

Chiropractic treatment during pregnancy would lead to proper pelvic balance and alignment. Proper pelvic alignment would provide help for a normal delivery. If its alignment is not proper, it would reduce the space available for the baby to grow. This is known as intrauterine constraint. Such misalignment could cause difficulty to the baby get into the best position for delivery. The treatment would keep your spine properly aligned which would help your body including the reproductive system to work properly.

Some of the babies take breech position till the third trimester. Most of the doctors are not concerned with it till 37th week of pregnancy. This results in breech delivery in about 4% of cases. But, there is a chiropractic technique which corrects this problem. This is known as Webster Technique. This method establishes balance in the pelvis of the pregnant woman and reduces undue stress on the uterus and its supporting ligaments. By doing so, it helps to the baby to turn to its normal position quite easily.

Therefore, it is recommended that a pregnant woman should take proper chiropractic care to ensure safe delivery of her baby.
