Obstetrics is the study and the surgical field of Pregnancy, and Midwifery is the non surgical field that cares for those pregnant women, who are about to deliver. The child birth usually occurs within 9 months after the female or the mother has conceived.
There are many experts that believe that child birth can also take place from about 40 weeks from the last normal menstrual period that takes place in women. However, the date of the child birth or the delivery is usually considered to be normal medically if it falls within two or three weeks of the calculated date. This calculation of the date involves the assumption of a regular 28 to 30 day period.
Pregnancy usually results because of the female gamete or the female egg, which is being penetrated by the male gamete sperm. This process where the male sperm penetrated the female egg is called “Fertilization”. This fusion usually occurs as a result of the sexual intercourse that takes place between the male and the female. But however with the advent of artificial insemination, pregnancy has been made possible even without the sexual intercourse that take place between the male and the female.
