Sciatica
Sciatica is a symptom usually a pain that is experienced in the leg; though it may sometimes look like a leg cramp or a muscle pull. This may even get worse and one may feel an excruciating pain so much that he would not be able to move or even stand.
But what makes this one worse is the pain that is experience every time you cough and even sneeze. This is such an ailment that can even occur suddenly within no time and even it can develop gradually over a period of months, with the leg suffering mild pain in the muscles and tissues in the initial stages.
But this could be of different intensity too, there are many who suffer weakness in their legs and knees, and there are some that suffer even numbness and burning sensation.
This leg pain is a symptom and not the ailment and if not treated then this could even get worse, as one can understand that if the symptom is so painful what the ailment would be like? But first we need to understand what the meaning of the term Sciatica is?
Sciatica is a symptom that is exactly a leg pain in which the pinched nerve that is affecting almost all the lower spinal nerves. These nerves might get pinched on the inside or the outside the spinal cord as it passes into the leg.
Here are some of the conditions that are the main cause of it:
The first and the most common thing is causes this leg pain is the herniated or the slipped disc that can cause pressure and force on the nerve root and this is the main cause of it.
Then another factor that is the main reason for this ailment is the Pirifornis syndrome and this develops because of the Pirifornis muscles, which lie deep within the buttocks. During the pain these muscles become tight and even those spams that can put pressure on the sciatic nerve.
The Spondylolisthesis is another reason that could cause this leg pain because in the spondylolisthesis there is a slippage of one vertebra and this would narrow the opening through the nerves.
The Spinal Stenosis is another factor that is also the cause of this leg pain, and this factor results in the narrowing of the spinal canal which can put pressure on the nerves that are connected on to the spinal cord.
So the following are the main cause of this leg pain.
