Slipped Disc
In usual terms “Slipped Disc” can be understood as the disc that are located between the spinal cord and which bulges from its position either due to an accident or an injury. But before we understand the meaning of the word slipped disc we should understand the meaning of the word Disc.
The spinal cord is made up from the vertebrae and these have some cartilages in them, these cartilages have disc within them. These discs usually consist of an entire circle of connective tissues that are encored with a gel. So it’s this gel that makes the spine flexible and at the same time it also protects the spine as a buffer.
The centre of the column and the vertebrate has the spine canal which has the spinal cord that stretches right from the brain stem to the second or the first lumbar vertebrae. It then continues as a bunch of nerve fibers that are called the equine, which stretches right from the sacrum, this is also an extension of the spine.
Each vertebra contains a nerve root connection to the other parts of the body and this is how the spinal cord through these root connection has the control over the entire body.
The spine is usually divided into three parts and these are
The neck which is also known as the Cervical Vertebrae.
The Lower Back which is called the Lumbar Vertebrae.
And the Chest which is called the Thoracic Vertebrae.
A slip disc is harm or an injury that is done to the spinal cord, when the soft part of the disc usually bulges through the circle of connectives tissues spread all over the back. This prolapsed or disc slip would push the spinal cord to the nerve roots.
However the word that is used for this prolapse does not mean it literally, because the disc does not slip from its place but it actually bulges out in the direction in which the spinal cord is located.
So its because of this that the victim would experience and suffer great pain and sorrow. This is one truth that most of the people would not even know. There are many reports that point out that more than 20 per cent of the world population that is between the age of 26 to 50 is suffering from this ailment and that too without even noticing or experiencing any symptoms.
