Wellness Care

Before we could discuss regarding Wellness Care, the term itself requires to be properly defined. If we consider health care as a spectrum of care, then Crisis Care would be at one end of the spectrum while Wellness Care would be at the other end of this spectrum.

Wellness care is such care which will keep a person fit. It might include regular health checkups to keep a tab on it. In case, any abnormality is found in any of these checkups, proper corrective steps could be taken in terms of medicine, exercise or life style changes. Some steps also could also be taken which would improve the current level of functioning. The best thing of Wellness Care is that it could be started for a person at any age whatever his or her condition is.

Wellness Care could be thought as the Research and Development of human health. We do not know anything about our own maximum potential. Many people think that it is inevitable to die due to some kind of disease. But, it is not necessarily true.

At a point of the history of mankind, living to be 40 years was considered a long life. But, if everybody thinks 40 years is a quite an old age, they would miss a lot of life in the present day world.

Today, people would think 80 years old is a good long life. And, at that age, we would no longer remain functional. But, there are many examples where people who are more than 80 years are living healthily and are quite functional.

Our life is designed for continuous progress. But, it is also a known fact that we are not going to live forever. We are all mortal and at some point of time our physical existence would be useful for the world.

Continuous progress not only encompasses our physical health but also includes our social health, emotional health and spiritual health. Therefore, the objective of Wellness Care should be to enhance our health in all these aspects.

Our goal is not to try to prevent death. Rather, it should be to express ourselves to the world to the maximum extent possible. Our capacity would not be measured only by our physical capacity but also include our ability to love other people, to be compassionate to others, to show wisdom and grace. These are qualities which other people would remember the most about you.

Therefore, our goal should be to focus on our ability to connect with the rest of humanity in a positive way until our physical life ends on this earth and our spiritual journey begins.
